Sita’s Sister
Sita’s Sister
Urmila, King Janak's second daughter, Lakshman's wife
and Sita's Sister is one of the most underrated characters of Ramayana.
Kavita Kane the author of this utterly absorbing book has explored all
the possible aspects of Urmila, the most protective and level headed
sister. From her childhood itself she had been instructed to accept
whatever ever she got it life, she was trained to be strong and
responsible. She was a great artist, a fierce lady and an extraordinary
scholer, she would rather debate with her father than gossiping with the
maids.
Sita was loved
and pampered more because Janak never wanted her to feel that she was an
adopted child. Besides he also had to take care of his brother's
daughters (Mandvi and Shutkirti). Despite the fact that she deserved all
the love, care, attention and pampering from her parents, she had to
share it with her sisters and she never complained about it and accepted
this gracefully and took it in her stride. Her bond with Lakshman was
not just on a mundane level. Their loyalty and sacrifice is portrayed in
a manner which is beyond the common perceptions. Urmila was the binding
force that kept Raghukul united in the trying times of Shri Ram's
exile.
Did Lakshman readily agree to marry Mila as he fondly called her?
What were the insights of his hesitation?
Was Kaykai entirely brutal in her decisions?
And most important of all Why did Urmila not accompany Lakshman as Sita did Ram and why she stayed in that doomed palace?
Find out in this intriguing read that will keep you glued till the last page. Must Read!
